Equi-areal Catadioptric Sensors
نویسندگان
چکیده
A prominent characteristic of most catadioptric sensors is their lack of “uniformity of resolution”. While several sensors previously appearing in the literature have been described as “equi-resolution”, this is not the case, because they do not incorporate the concept of solid angle. We describe catadioptric sensors whose associated projections from the viewing sphere to the image plane are area preserving (equi-areal), and so truly are equi-resolution . We show that in the orthographic case the catoptric component must be a surface of revolution of constant Gaussian curvature. We compare these equi-areal sensors in both the perspective and orthographic cases with other sensors that have been proposed earlier for treating the uniformity-ofresolution problem.

The Quality of Catadioptric Imaging ? Application to Omnidirectional Stereo
We investigate the influence of the mirror shape on the imaging quality of catadioptric sensors. For axially symmetrical mirrors we calculate the locations of the virtual image points considering incident quasi-parallel light rays. Using second order approximations, we give analytical expressions for the two limiting surfaces of this “virtual image zone”. This is different to numerical or ray t...
متن کاملCalibration of Panoramic Catadioptric Sensors Made Easier
We present a new method to calibrate panoramic catadioptric sensors. While many methods exist for planar cameras, it is not the case for panoramic catadioptric sensors. The aim of the proposed calibration is not to estimate the mirror surface parameters which can be known very accurately, but to estimate the intrinsic parameters of the CCD camera and the pose parameters of the CCD camera with r...
متن کاملAuto-Calibration and 3D Reconstruction with Non-Central Catadioptric Sensors using Polarization Imaging
Non-central catadioptric sensors became a mandatory effective tool in a broad range of applications and hence robust modeling and calibration for such sensors are required. One simple and efficient method is to model the catadioptric sensor by its catacaustics. Calibrating the sensor is equivalent to computing its catacaustics which fully geometrically describe the sensor. In this work, we cali...
متن کاملOn the Modelling and Design of Omnidirectional Catadioptric Sensors
Conventional cameras have a rather limited field of view, which raises various problems like the necessity to control their orientation. Panoramic or omnidirectional image sensors solve this problem by using a curved mirror. In this work we address the modelling and design omnidirectional catadioptric sensors and show our experiences with semi-spherical mirrors.
متن کاملCatadioptric Image Formation
Conventional video cameras have limited elds of view that make them restrictive in certain vision applications. A catadioptric sensor uses a combination of lenses and mirrors placed in a carefully designed con guration to capture a much wider eld of view. In particular, the shape of the mirror must be selected to ensure that the complete catadioptric system has a single e ective viewpoint, whic...
